One-Bowl Banana Oatmeal

I love this time of year. The weather is cooling off, and holiday excitement is in the air. But with all the distractions, it can be harder and harder to commit to a regular self-care routine.

In Ayurveda, the sister science of yoga, this season of Fall is called “vata” season. Vata dominance means that air and ether are more prominent in our constitutions as the weather gets colder and drier. This time of year can also leave us feeling ungrounded and scattered.

A great way to feel stable and nourished during this season of change is to enjoy a warm breakfast! Try this wholesome microwaveable oatmeal to stay satisfied until lunch time. This recipe is easy to make at home and then transport to the office for heating and eating!

  • Ripe banana
  • 1 Tbsp nut butter (optional)
  • 1/2 C. milk (soy, almond, coconut, whole…)
  • 1/2 C. oats
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg or cardamom (optional)
  • Pinch of sea salt

Mash the banana with a spoon. Add nut butter. Mix in the milk. Add the oats and spices.

Microwave for 2-3 minutes on High, stopping once to stir.  Let stand for one minute after cooking.

Savor the aromas of this spiced oatmeal. As you eat, make an intention to continue treating yourself well throughout the day.

—Namaste y’all—
